We run the Butan streetwear label. 'Butan' originates from the re-arrangement of the word 'Bantu' – ‘Bantu’ meaning "people" in the Nguni languages of Southern Africa. Post colonial abuse and misuse of the word 'Bantu' in South Africa, 'Butan' emerges, symbolizing resilience, a reclaiming of history, and taking pride in the African story. Driven by our passion to preserve, celebrate and proliferate African culture globally, we are breaking mental barriers and embracing our identity through fashion. Our garments embody African anecdotes, crafted through quality apparel, blended with bold graphics and re-imagined patterns.
